Grumpy old man
Little things can sometimes get me down. And when I’m feeling low, my sex-drive also suffers. For the last day or so, even Emma has found it difficult (but not impossible) to raise my spirits. In the grand scheme of things, of course, the cause is trivial. It usually is. I debated long and hard with myself whether to buy a new desktop or to blow my money instead on additional software and hardware. I opted for the latter. Within days of receiving the goods, my desktop decided to go on strike, or at least on a work-to-rule. It is now running so slowly that even the Windows “Welcome” jingle comes out horribly distorted. Jobs that were once done in the blink of an eye now take minutes, and photo-editing has become a dreary chore rather than a joy. The technicians at BT have been unable to solve the problem remotely, and have suggested rebooting, with all the inconvenience that that entails. But they have hinted that it is just as likely to be a hardware problem. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
