Most people (and all teachers) are familiar with the normal distribution curve, at least in principal. It describes how, for almost all variables (such as IQ, height, penis-length) most values are to be found around the middle range, with fewer and fewer as you approach the extremes at either end. For a teacher like me, working solely with pupils of well below average ability, it was a sad fact of life that, no matter how hard little Simon and I worked, there was no chance that he would reach, let alone get beyond, that hump. Which is why I hated the “objective testing” which senior management imposed upon us both. Oh how my pupils would have loved to be average! And some of us know how they feel. It’s perhaps as well to remember that the guys we see in porn movies are not chosen for their acting ability. And for every John Holmes, there’s an Alfie. Go here and ask yourself what’s wrong with being average. And would you really like to be in the top percentile, with your date crying out in alarm. “You’re not coming near me with that thing”? Don’t answer that!
