One of the results of upgrading to Windows 7 was the necessity to renew much of my software, including my clip-art collection. I have always used Corel Gallery Magic, which was issued even before Windows 98, but ran quite happily under Windows XP. And it came with a 600-page printed manual, which included thumbnails of all 200,000 images! Its database, with over 500 sub-categories, was a joy to use. My chosen replacement is Art Explosion 300,000. The installation disk downloads one of those ubiquitous “organisers” - a database which is not a joy to use. Its “quick search” is anything but quick. until you work out a couple of short-cuts. And don’t be taken in by the figure 300,000. It includes, for example, 100 stained-glass windows. Why so many? And 100 images of Canadian supermodels. Why so many? And why all Canadian? And all the images of computers include CRT monitors. This is an update? Certainly you would be unlucky not to find an image which fitted your needs (almost) but there is am awful lot of dross.
