Anyway, here’s the collage I promised when I mentioned the proliferation of stone circles in Wales - Emma as a sacrificial virgin, lying prostrate on the ancient altar-stone. It’s not very good technically, I admit. And you’ll have to grant me poetic licence over the virgin bit. I thought it would be fun to include Emma as the high-priestess, rather than include myself in the tableaux, brandishing the inevitable erection in place of a dagger. I can’t help thinking that there must always have been a certain amount of sexual arousal involved in the real-life sacrifice of virgins although I’m not for a moment doubting the religious sincerity of the priesthood and lay worshippers involved. Until Judaism, Christianity (and that other one) stuck their oars in, sex was seen as an integral part of religion. Bring it back, I say. I’ve always liked the idea of women hanging about outside the temple waiting to be screwed as part of their religious devotion.
