Pictures of Emm
On this day in the year 1400, Owain Glyndwr was crowned as the rightful Prince of Wales and quickly built up a considerable following amongst his countrymen. He held a parliament not a hundred yards from where I sit writing this post. Glyndwr is arguably the most famous figure in the proud history of Wales. His revolt, which lasted until 1409, was the last major Welsh rebellion against English rule and generated a remarkable vision of Wales as an independent country with its own native prince, its own Church, and its own universities. The rebellion itself was inevitably defeated, but Owain Glyndwr - who was never captured or betrayed - became a legendary hero among the Welsh people. He was without question the Welsh “Braveheart” and deserves to be as renowned and celebrated as the Scottish hero, William Wallace. Bare-breasted Emma proudly bears his banner.
