Love is never taking your loved one for granted. We can all be thoughtless at times, but some people seem to make a habit of it. By far the worst offender I ever knew was a former boss, Keith C. His attractive wife Angela had completely lost her sight - the result of a head injury. She coped magnificently well and was employed as an audio-typist. I will give just two examples of Keith’s incredible insensitivity. On one occasion he came home at night to find Angela preparing his tea. “Why on earth are you working in the dark?” he asked, switching on the light. On the second occasion, having taken their pet poodle to the vet, he told Angela he had some bad news. Her beloved pet would have to be put to sleep. When Angela asked what the problem was, he simply said, “She’s going blind.” We were all appalled at his frequent displays of insensitively. One would be tempted to think that, because Angela coped so well with her disability, Keith simply forgot that she was blind. But he remembered well enough when he openly tried to flirt with other women in her presence. She left him.
