Well, my visit to the cardiologist last week brought some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the arrhythmia, although annoying, is not life-threatening. [I strongly suspected this. After all, my mother lived with it for ninety-three years.] The bad news is, I will just have to learn to live with it. Zapping a few superfluous nerves - ablation - would not solve what is basically a short-circuiting problem. All in all, it was an interesting afternoon. I saw the heart in action on the ultra-scan screen. I had asked the technician to break the news gradually to me if I turned out to be pregnant. I watched the traces detailing my heart’s performance as I went for a five mile uphill run on the treadmill - and lived to tell the tale. And at last I met a consultant who made eye-contact and didn’t give me the impression he had more important things to do. So, given my age, I have been given a relatively clean bill of health cardiovascular-wise, and I can continue to fuck the lady on the right without fear of popping my clogs.
