For a couple of weeks I had been suffering the symptoms of a late-Summer cold - blocked sinuses, sore throat, and an annoying, ticklish cough. It seemed worse in the evenings, and worst of all in bed at night, which played havoc with our love-life (though obviously without putting paid to it completely). Mouth to mouth contact was actively discouraged. It was when I jokingly suggested that I must have become allergic to her, that Emma suddenly put two and two together to make a diagnosis. I do have an allergy problem, and Emma had recently changed her shampoo and conditioner, which she uses every other day. The shampoo, I use daily. That floral fragrance, no doubt new and improved the way these things always are, had been responsible for my unpleasant symptoms. Emma has reverted to her previous hair-care products, and the patient is responding well to treatment. The nil-by-mouth notice has been taken down.
