Not fit for purpose

Some shoes, Emma insists, are just for looking at - unsuitable at her time of life for walking in, or sometimes even for standing in. There were times, in the dim and distant past, when she was prepared to put up with the crippling discomfort of catwalk footwear, but not any more, thank you very much. It’s not, I hasten to add, that she only wears granny-shoes in extra-wide fittings; it’s just that she well only buy shoes if she can walk comfortably in them. I ask you, what sort of a criterion is that? So when I see a pair of shoes I think her feet might look pretty in, I understand that I will have to pay for them, and that she will most likely never wear them outside the house. Emma claims that the pair pictures here are the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever spent my pennies on. I might as well have asked her to wrap her feet in barbed-wire. She says they are the sort of shoes a woman can’t wait to take off. In which case, a pair of horse-hair panties might be an investment.
