My brother-in-law, bless his heart, has many contacts dating from his days as a civil engineer and planning officer for one of the London boroughs. It appears that most of them have little else to do than read and forward emails on a wide range of trivial subjects. Some are mildly amusing, some are vaguely informative, others are (at least to me) politically objectionable. And, incidentally, what makes such people believe that a joke is funnier, or a piece of propaganda more convincing, for appearing in extra-large print? Whatever the original source, it seems that everyone forwards these emails willy-nilly to everyone on their contacts list. Sometimes there are scores of names involved down the line. And my dear BIL in his turn forwards them automatically to everyone on his contacts list, including me. Which prompts the question would he think of bundling up all the junk mail that clatters through his letter-box and posting it on to me? I never open any attachments and seldom bother to read the text-only emails, but I wish I could filter out everything that is simply forwarded to me. [I can’t post a picture of BIL, so here is his little sister.]
