[Sunday, 12th April, 1959] Emma and I were busy eating each other in the front room last night when I heard someone ring the door-bell. I recognised the voice of Uncle Arne as he was invited in and went out into the hall to say hello. After the usual long-time-no-see greeting, Uncle Arne insisted on meeting my girl-friend. Emma acknowledged his greeting red-faced. She had managed to do up one or two of the buttons on her blouse but, underneath that, her bra was obviously unfastened. Uncle Arne smiled his Norwegian smile and left us to it. What I had noticed most when I returned to the parlour, however, was a distinctive fragrance in the room - the unmistakable scent of sex. No wonder the male moth can detect a female half a mile away. I could have detected Emma from three miles with a heavy head-cold. Tried to open the sash window but it's stuck fast with paint, having never been opened.
