Everyone of a certain age in the UK (and even some beyond these shores) has a favourite Monty Python sketch. The most popular item by far involves a certain Norwegian Blue, which has allegedly gone to meet its maker. That is included in my list, too, along with Hell’s Grannies. But top of my list is the following politically-incorrect sketch which never ceases to make me laugh. I know that there will be people who insist that it is offensive to gays, but the only gay couple I know agree with me that it’s a classic. The BBC (once affectionately known as Auntie because of its patronising attitude to public morals) recently tried to ban the Pogue’s Fairy Tale of New York because it claimed the use of the word faggot might offend the gay community. I wonder if this sketch would get past the censor in today‘s enlightened age? If I knew how to, I would run a poll to canvas your opinion. Offensive or not?
