King-size

Emma and I sleep centrifugally - by which I mean we both eschew the centre of the bed and cling to the edges. If we slept any nearer the edge, we would be in danger of falling out - falling out of bed, I mean, not falling out with each other. If pressed to give a reason, I would have to admit that we are both quite restless sleepers, with Emma much more of a fidget than me. By claiming the centre ground, I would run the risk of the occasional black eye or a knee in the groin. Having said that, we do like to keep in touch with each other during the night. If we wake momentarily, we reach out to make sure the other has not done a moonlight flit or been spirited away by goblins (or abducted by aliens to use the modern phrase). Last week we both found the king-size bed in our hotel room quite disconcerting. Our love-making is never so athletic that we need a bed the size of a football pitch. And our sleeping arrangements are such that anything larger than a standard double-bed is surplus to requirements. [I didn't take any one-on-one shots while we were away. This photo is a cheat.]
