It's hardly the Antarctic

It was touch and go, but we made it to our hotel, where we intended to celebrate Emma’s birthday last week. Much of the UK found itself under a blanket of snow which, typically, brought the country to a standstill. The UK authorities are always surprised when Winter follows Autumn. They invariably find themselves totally unprepared for snow. Surely they must have received one or two of those jolly Christmas cards which show the countryside covered in the stuff. Paradoxically, although Emma and I live in the Snowdonia National Park, it was the snow-clad mountains themselves that kept our own little town virtually snow-free. The county’s Works Department then cleared a path for us all the way to Llangollen. Wasn’t that thoughtful of them? In Llangollen, too, the council workers had been hard at work clearing the snow from the riverside walks. Perhaps they were expecting an influx of tourists. But, as you can see, Emma and I had the walk to ourselves.
