Emma’s favourite home-based activity takes place mostly in the bedroom, less often in the guest-room, and least often elsewhere in the house - as you can see. Recently, however, another interest has come a very close second to our love-making. For three months Emma has been researching a new kitchen, and this forward planning has been slowly driving me to distraction. Ironically, it was me who put the idea into her head a couple of years ago. But I was simply planting a seed, which I knew would take a while to germinate while other priorities prevailed. Now it has sprouted, grown and become rampant, like the beanstalk in the fairy-tale. Once a decision had been made regarding style, number and type of cupboards, choice of fitter, etc., I thought that would be and end to it. But Emma, bless her nest-building heart, has spoken of little else for months. If I hear the k-word again, I’ll develop one of those headaches only married women are supposed to get.
