When we retired to our Welsh love-nest, many of our friends warned us that we would be isolated - cut off from the services and conveniences of the city. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have five pubs, two coffee-shops, three restaurants, two supermarkets, the doctors’ surgery, all within a five minute walk from our cottage. The hospital (from where I took this photograph) is a short ten minute walk - how convenient is that! My heart specialist, although based at a major hospital eighty miles away, looks forward to holding a clinic at the local hospital, bringing his family for a nice day out. So effectively he comes to me, rather than vice versa. An appointment was made last week for me to have a corrective insole made to measure to correct damage to my Achilles tendon. I was looking forward to an overnight stay in Llandudno where the specialist is based. Guess what! He too insists on paying our “isolated” village a visit. Spoilsport.
