There was one serious drawback to celebrating my birthday in Chester last weekend. It gave Emma the opportunity to do some last-minute Christmas shopping in the city. My advise would be, don’t even think of it! It put me in mind of that scene in the second Crocodile Dundee movie, where the New York subway was so crowded that our hero could walk across the heads and shoulders of the commuters in order to reach his goal. I’ve never seen such a mass of aimlessly-wandering people. The only shoppers who could make real progress were the young mothers who used their baby-buggies as lethal weapons. Still, we did manage to get to an Anne Summers store, where Emma bought - Sorry, Emma picked, Alfie bought - some pretty frivolities which no doubt will appear here in due course. When paying for the items - which weight-for-weight were more expensive than gold bullion - we were offered a gold bullet as half price. This lipstick-sized vibrator was put to good use when we got back to the hotel. A foot-spa would have come in handy, too.
