You really can’t beat hotel sex, can you? Last weekend Emma and I celebrated my umpteenth birthday by taking a weekend break in Chester. We stayed at the Queen Hotel, conveniently situated opposite the railway station and offering a free bus-service into the city centre. The Queen is a large Victorian hotel, sympathetically renovated, but retaining the sumptuous luxury which would have been taken for granted by well-heeled Victorians. You can get some idea of the size of the hotel from the photograph on the left - which isn’t a collage, by the way. Fortunately, not all the furniture in the hotel is as massive as this dining-chair, otherwise my well-documented feelings of inferiority regarding matters of size might have adversely affected my performance in the king-size bed. We enjoyed our stay so much we have already booked in for my birthday next year. I should live so long!
