St Patrick's Day

Today is St Patrick’s Day (or Lá Fhéite Pádraig as they say in Gaelic). This special day is celebrated worldwide by Irish people - and increasingly by non-Irish people too, particularly in Australia and North America. Any excuse for a knees-up or a booze-up. Both Christians and non-Christians, catholics and protestants, celebrate the secular version of the holiday by “the wearing of the green”, eating Irish (or simply green) foods, and imbibing Irish drinks - Guiness (which Emma and I both hate) and Bailey’s Irish Cream (which we both love). In Dublin, Eire, where they seem to do everything pleasurable to excess, the St Patrick’s Day parade is part of a five-day festival. Some cities in the USA really get into the swing of things, too. The Chicago River is died green each year, as just one example of many. Emma and I will just add some green Radox to our bathwater have a Baileys or three. Sláinte!
