Griselda was suffering from a nasty bronchial cough - hereinafter referred to as an NBC - which she communicated to Emma. For days, Emma was coughing like an ancient mariner who’d smoked forty high-tar full-strength cigarettes a day for eighty of his ninety years. Fortunately, she was over the worst of it when we went away. However, Griselda happens to work as a waitress at a local country hotel, at which an executive conference was held. Among the delegates was daughter Eva’s boss Ellen, who was also served up a dose of Griselda’s NBC. Before going off sick herself, Ellen held a briefing with daughter Eva back at the office to discuss the outcome of the conference. Even that brief meeting was sufficient to pass on the NBC, which meant that mother and daughter, although living eighty miles apart, ended up suffering the same affliction. For God’s sake, Griselda, if you’re not well, stay at home.
