Books! Although they come a very poor second to Emma (vanishingly small by comparison) books have always played an important part in my life. The house would be full to overflowing with them, if Emma hadn’t occasionally imposed the rule: One in, one out. We have now reached a compromise. Just a single wall of book-shelves in the living-room is home to frequently used non-fiction, poetry and reference-books (seen here) and all the ephemeral stuff like novels (two and a half thousand novels in Welsh for starters) are confined to our work-room. Three years before we married, a psychic told the impressionable teenage Emma that she saw her happily married, living in a cottage close to a river and surrounded by books and papers. So she can’t say she wasn’t warned. And unlike my ancient parents in days of yore, Emma never objects that I always have my head buried in a book. She knows full well that I would far sooner have it buried in her bosom or between her thighs. posted by sooyup on Daily trivia, Pictures of Emm
