Dublin's fair city

We spent only one full day in Dublin, Ireland, and took the hop-on hop-off tour-bus to see the sights. Emma and I would like to have spent at least three days in the capital to savour the atmosphere and visit places of particular interest. For instance, I would have liked to have paid my respects at the place where fifteen freedom-fighters were executed in 1916. It was their martyrdom by the British government which ensured that the demand for independence would become a popular cause. But my brother had arranged the itinerary, so we hopped off only once - to photograph Dublin’s most famous statute, Molly Malone - affectionately known as “the tart with the cart”. Immortalised by the song, Molly was a fish-monger by day and a prostitute by night. Our guest-house host, Bill, insisted that Molly was much maligned in that regard. She was, he said, celibate - she would “sell-a-bit” here and “sell-a-bit” there!
