It is extremely unusual for Emma to get out of bed before me. Invariably, I am up and about at least half an hour before she opens her eyes. For that reason alone, I am envious of those guys who get to enjoy early morning sex - perhaps after an invigorating shower, perhaps even in the shower. On Thursday, we had an unusually late night - something unmissable on the box - and I slept like the proverbial log on Zopiclone. On Friday morning I slept until the unheard of hour of eight. It was the words “I love you” which roused me, followed by the unmistakable sound of an air-kiss. Possibly it chimed in with my dreams - I can’t recall. But it was repeated twice before I eventually raised my heavy eyelids. It was, of course, Emma. Who else? But it wasn’t Emma that had uttered the words or mouthed the kiss. She stood there teasing me with one of her squeaky toys - a little red devil that says, “I love you X” when his tummy is pressed - just as Emma does.
