Frankly I’m surprised how many porn-stars shout “Shit!” to show how much they are enjoying whatever sexual activity they are engaged in. Guy and girls alike seem to shout it ad nauseam. And ad nauseam is right. To my mind the expletive seems singularly inappropriate - unless the are more coprophiliacs (or scatophiliacs) out there than I thought. Generally speaking - or generally shouting - Emma and I make do with simple appeals to the Almighty: God. Oh God. Oh my God. Which raises an interesting question on which some classical scholar may care to enlighten me. Given a whole pantheon of deities to choose from, what did the ancient Greeks and Romans, for example, shout as they reached a climax? Zeus or Jupiter, Jove, Pluto, Neptune (presumable reserved for making love to mermaids)? Or was it Venus, Diana, Minerva? My own favourite, pictured here with Emma’s face, would have been Artemis. All those tits! Perhaps guys shouted out the names of gods, and girls the name of goddesses. Or vice versa. Surely the murals at Pompeii hold a clue.
