Being an empty-nester doesn’t guarantee a care-free sex-life. As I may have mentioned, daughter Eva is going through a messy divorce. This, together with certain hormonal disturbances which I am not supposed to know about, has left her in need of frequent maternal guidance and reassurance. For these reasons, all lines of communication are being kept open at all times. Leaving the phone off the hook has not been an option for a couple of months. So before we get down to our usual afternoon session, Emma will invariably give Eva a ring at work to make sure that she is okay - and at the same time to ensure that we are not disturbed. This occasionally results in the scene you can see illustrated here. Eva has answered the phone and said “Sorry, Mum. I’m on the other line. I’ll ring you back in a couple of minutes.” Emma waits patiently by the phone, and I lie on the bed waiting somewhat less patiently. And if we give up waiting and get started on the action, you can guarantee that’s when Eva will ring.
