Take Emma away for a couple of days and you can guarantee that when she comes back home she remains cock-happy for days. Admittedly, she is always more or less ready for it, but after our away-days she is insatiable. Pressed for an explanation, she points out that before we go away she like to have all the housework done, so that she doesn’t have it to face when we get back. The brief holiday gets her in the mood and, with no chores to do, what do I expect? I think I should have worked that out for myself. And it’s a good enough reason for taking frequent short breaks, rather than fewer longer holidays. I had downloaded and was editing photographs we took on our latest jaunt, with Emma looking over my shoulder from time to time. Looking over my shoulder became breathing down my neck, which became whispering in my ear. Which later became what you see here. And we hadn’t even had our mid-morning coffee.
