Put that stop-watch away - 1

It’s often pointed out that young men and women who derive all or part of their practical sex education from porn videos are bound to suffer feelings of inadequacy. A majority of men will fail to measure up to the featured studs - that’s how the law of averages works. Equally, some may believe they suffer from premature ejaculation because they can’t keep going indefinitely. A survey of Canadian and US psychologists, physicians, social workers, family therapists and nurses, who have collectively seen thousands of clients over several decades, has shown that, discounting foreplay, satisfactory sexual intercourse for couples lasts from 3 to 13 minutes, not the thirty-minutes plus which sex videos would suggest. The group rated a range of times for sexual intercourse, from penetration to ejaculation, that their clients considered adequate, desirable, too short and too long. The ranges of intercourse times were defined as "adequate," from 3-7 minutes; "desirable," from 7-13 minutes; "too short" from 1-2 minutes; and "too long" from 10-30 minutes. Clock-watching aside, Emma and I have always reckoned that if you’re both happy, you’re doing it right.
