I’ll be fucking Emma in Pontypool next week. This is a preview. We are off with C&F (or former next-door neighbours) to South Wales next week - our annual pilgrimage to the National Eisteddfod. The week-long festival, held alternately in North and South Wales, is our country’s largest cultural event, attracting visitors and competitors from all over Wales and the rest of the world. Most of them are able to speak the language of heaven, and Welsh is virtually the only language you will here spoken at the Eisteddfod. There will be a large contingent from Patagonia in Argentina, where many people have Welsh as a second language. In 1855, 153 Welsh people had sailed from Liverpool on the ship Mimosa to establish a Welsh colony in Patagonia. And by 1914 over three thousand Welsh people had settled there. They paid an important role in the economic development of Argentina, and many of their descendents are still Welsh at heart.
